Ingredients

  • 50 g turnip slices
  • 100 ml heavy cream
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 50 g gruyère
  • 1 tsp nutmeg

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) to prepare for baking the gratin.
  2. Rub the inside of a small gratin dish with one of the garlic cloves, then mince the remaining cloves and scatter them evenly across the base of the dish.
  3. Layer the turnip slices evenly in the prepared dish, seasoning between layers with freshly grated nutmeg.
  4. Pour the heavy cream over the layered turnip slices, ensuring the cream seeps through all the layers.
  5. Scatter the grated gruyère evenly over the top to create a golden, bubbling crust during baking.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 19 minutes, or until the gruyère is melted and lightly golden and the turnip slices are tender.
  7. Remove from the oven and allow the gratin to rest for 2 minutes before serving directly from the dish.
