Per serving

Ingredients

  • 100 g tofu
  • 2 pieces black pepper
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 tbsp butter

Method

  1. Press the tofu firmly between paper towels and let it drain for 10 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
  2. Melt the butter in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat until it begins to foam, which should take about 2 minutes.
  3. Add the tofu cubes to the wok and stir-fry them in the butter for 15 minutes, turning occasionally, until each side is golden and slightly crisp.
  4. Crush the black pepper pieces coarsely and add them to the wok, stirring them through the tofu for 2 minutes to bloom their heat and aroma in the hot butter.
  5. Pour the soy sauce evenly over the tofu and toss everything together, allowing the sauce to reduce and coat the tofu for the remaining cook time of approximately 22 minutes over medium heat until the glaze is thick and fragrant.
  6. Remove the wok from the heat and let the dish rest for 2 minutes before serving hot across 4 portions.
