Ingredients

  • 300 g beef
  • 100 g tofu
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1 small scallions
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

Method

  1. Slice the beef into thin strips and cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes, then set both aside while you prepare the remaining ingredients.
  2. In a large skillet or shallow pot over medium-high heat, sear the beef strips for about 5 minutes until browned on all sides.
  3. Add the soy sauce and ginger to the pan, stirring to coat the beef evenly and allow the flavors to develop for 2 minutes.
  4. Gently nestle the tofu cubes into the pan among the beef, then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer everything together for 35 minutes, allowing the tofu to absorb the savory braising liquid.
  5. Taste and adjust the seasoning with additional soy sauce if needed during the final minutes of simmering.
  6. Transfer the niku tofu to a serving dish, then garnish with thinly sliced scallions and a generous sprinkle of sesame seeds before serving.
